It really encourages people to donate while still being able to receive their money back. Regardless of whether I receive any money back, I still like the idea of providing the people on Kiva money they would normally not be able to get.

Re: Kiva Gives Entrepreneurs Some Wonderful Perspective

It is amazing the percentage of payback. When we're all supposed to be thinking about what we're thankful for, it helps to see where others are. Seeing these peoples plights and goals puts our abundance in perspective. How can we not help them to achieve what we ourselves are so fortunate to have?

Kiva has made it simple for my family to help others. Hopefully others will do the same.

http://www.kiva.org/lender/...

Re: Kiva Gives Entrepreneurs Some Wonderful Perspective

Love how easy Kiva makes it to lend money. In Stephen Covey's, The 8th Habit, he tells the story of Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, "a unique organization established for the sole purpose of extending microcredit to the poorest of the poor in Bangledesh-I asked him when and how he gained his vision. He said he didn't have any vision to begin with. He simply saw someone in need, tried to fill it, and the vision evolved. Muhammad Yunus's vision of a poverty-free world was set in moiton with an event on the streets." Kiva is an extension of this vision and it allows all of us with access to the internet to easily participate without having to step back and create some huge vision...all we have to do is contribute to a solution. HOW INCREDIBLE. Thanks John for the reminder and Happy Thanksgiving!
Angie
http://twitter.com/aaswartz

Angie A. I had heard of it some time ago and as entrepreneur was enthralled by the idea, but I hadn't explored it enough to engage. The holidays area perfect time to participate.

Re: Kiva Gives Entrepreneurs Some Wonderful Perspective

I was just talking with a friend the other day about microlending. I'm going to Kiva now to make my donation in thanksgiving for all the blessings in my life.

Re: Kiva Gives Entrepreneurs Some Wonderful Perspective

Great idea to use this as part of a Christmas present! And John, just thought I would let you know there is a typo in your link to get to your podcast page. Definitely going to listen right now, thanks.

Re: Kiva Gives Entrepreneurs Some Wonderful Perspective

i have been a fan of micro loans, regardless of the source, for as long as I have known about them. Smaller loans that get 'real stuff' and become business that EARNS to the loan can go back into the 'kitty' for the next person. I've heard of them in 3rd World countries, with women in the US and believe they are a better answer than thousands of $$$ at risk. Thank you for this information

Re: Kiva Gives Entrepreneurs Some Wonderful Perspective

@Morgan - it's certainly part of my families' holiday plans as well.

Re: Kiva Gives Entrepreneurs Some Wonderful Perspective

I'm really glad you put that post up. What makes lending money through Kiva very attractive is the journal you get to keep track of 'your' entrepreneur. This is going to be my parent's xmas present! Excellent!
